I’ve been skirting around what the EA and e/acc camps are/mean but I’m glad I committed to dive into this article in full. Why does everything need to be so polarised to the extremes in today’s world??

Thank you again for sharing another great analysis piece. Your articles are what give me a sense of what going on - even if I don’t fully grasp it. I do agree that this feels like religion factions at play. And I think money and power are behind all of it - just like those other religions. I also get a sense many of the these AI scientists read too much science fiction and believe it’s non-fiction.

You're very welcome! Are there any additional questions you had or things you didn't fully grasp?

Sorry, I mean it’s not that I didn’t grasp what you said, it’s just a general statement about how I feel about the ever evolving topic of AI. Your articles help make things clearer! And for that I thank you!

That's what I was getting at - are there other topics in AI that I should write about? Hearing from readers about what's confusing or what they want to learn more about is super useful feedback!

Where do you draw the line between “faith” and “acting under uncertainty”?

Conviction.

Could you please elaborate on that?

We're all acting under uncertainty, to a degree. But to me, faith is having strong conviction when the answers are unknowable. Proselytizing, rather than hypothesizing.

I don't think faith is bad - it's clearly an important trait for many leaders. But given how many things about the future of AI are currently unknowable, I am surprised at the strength of conviction in many of the loudest voices.
